September 25, 2007 WASHINGTON D.C. - Today, Congressman Steve Pearce strongly condemned the majority party for trying to implement government-run health care with legislation intended to help low-income children afford health insurance. The legislation makes those with incomes as high at $80,000 eligible for the program and is open for fraudulent abuse by illegal aliens. "The bill vastly expands the program far beyond its original intent. This is the single largest step toward socialized medicine since HillaryCare," said Pearce. "We all agree on aiding low-income children, but they have abused that bipartisanship by adding in a host of things the American people have repeatedly rejected." The State Children's Health Insurance Program, or SCHIP, provides assistance for health insurance to low-income children who are not eligible for Medicaid.
