Hello, this is Congressman Steve Pearce.  Right now, you’re listening to one of your favorite local radio stations

Local radio keeps us united as a community, informs us of local events, and serves an important public safety role.  But right now in Congress, some are advocating for crippling new taxes that could threaten the future of this critical public asset.

Due to online trading and piracy of music, the music industry is pushing for new taxes on our local stations to recoup their losses.  I believe we all need to help fight music piracy, but new taxes won’t accomplish that. 

We should be enforcing the law against those who are committing crimes, not increasing the burden on law abiding stations who provide a valuable public service.

I cosponsored the Local Radio Freedom Act to make sure local radio stations  and New Mexico communities aren’t hurt by these new excessive tax hikes. I support the Local Radio Freedom Act because Congress must allow the local radio industry to flourish and continue to provide you with the important local news and information you deserve.
