CONGRESSMAN PEARCE: FUNDS NEED TO PROVIDE LONG-TERM SOLUTION
Washington, DC (July 8, 2014) Congressman Steve Pearce released this statement following President Obama's request for $3.7 billion in emergency appropriations today.
"Money alone is not the solution to this problem. Too often, Washington gets bogged down with simply questioning whether to fund something or not," said Congressman Steve Pearce. "With the border and ongoing crisis, we need a clear path forward. We must know the United States has a plan to solve this problem, and look at how to mitigate and manage the long-term issues facing our border security."
"President Obama and DHS Secretary Jeh Johnson have publically stated that they are committed to enforcing the laws we have," Pearce continued. "This is the simplest and quickest answer to the current crisis we face. This sends a clear message that attempting to enter the United States illegally is not worth the physical and monetary toll it takes. Moving forward, Congress and the President must work together to address our long-term border needs, while ensuring accountability in addressing the short-term humanitarian crisis we face."
