Alamogordo, NM (May 9, 2013) – Today, U.S. Congressman Steve Pearce announced that Kaden Calahan of the New Mexico School for the Blind and Visually Impaired is the winner of the 2013 Congressional Art Competition from New Mexico’s Second Congressional District.

“I’m proud to congratulate Kaden for this great achievement,” said Pearce.  “His artwork will be a great representation of Southern New Mexico in our nation’s capitol.  We had many great entries this year, and I applaud all the gifted young artists who participated—their hard work and talent are evident in every submission.

Eighteen pieces of artwork were submitted this year from schools throughout New Mexico’s Second Congressional District.  Official judges met in Las Cruces to review the artwork, and selected Calahan’s photograph, “NMSVBI Track,” which they believed well represented New Mexico.  All pieces submitted, including Calahan’s, are available on Congressman Pearce’s Facebook page at

Calahan’s piece will be displayed in the U.S. Capitol Building in Washington, and he and a guest will be invited to attend the unveiling ceremony with other winners from across the country.
