Las Cruces, NM (April 18, 2013) - Today, U.S. Congressman Steve Pearce announced that he will join with the other members of New Mexico’s Congressional Delegation to host two “Academy Night” events for New Mexico students interested in applying to one of the military academies.

The first Academy Night will be held on Thursday, April 25, at Onate High School in Las Cruces, at 6:00 pm. The second will be held on Tuesday, May 7, at La Cueva High School in Albuquerque, at 6:00 pm. 

Congressman Pearce encourages students from New Mexico’s Second Congressional District to attend either meeting.  Representatives from New Mexico’s Congressional and Senate offices, as well as military officers, will be in attendance to answer questions and provide guidance.

Service Academies include the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado, the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland, the U.S. Military Academy in West Point, New York, and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, New York.  Students applying to the U.S. Coast Guard Academy in New London, Connecticut, do not need a Congressional nomination.

The application process is open to all interested high school juniors and seniors in New Mexico’s Second Congressional District.  Students are encouraged to research the specific academies on their respective websites for further information on the nomination and selection process.
