Apr 15, 2013 Issues: Tax Reform

Washington, DC (April 15, 2013) – Today, U.S. Congressman Steve Pearce issued the following statement on Tax Day:

“Today, as Americans file their taxes, millions are reminded how much  of their hard-earned money is  taken by Washington.  Our nation’s debt and deficit remain sky-high, businesses and families continue to struggle, yet Washington continues to squander tax dollars on more wasteful spending.  Year after year, middle class Americans pay more than their fair share.  And they are tired of the same increasing debt, the same waste, and the same broken promises from Washington.  Tax Day is a painful reminder of Washington’s disregard for the hard work of millions of Americans.

“Simple, commonsense solutions are possible.  We can cut fraud in programs like Medicaid and Medicare, where billions are needlessly lost each year instead of going to our seniors.  We can reduce wasteful spending on countless redundant programs, as the House did last month with the SKILLS Act.  If we hold our leaders accountable, and if Washington responds to the voice of the people, we could see lower taxes and wiser spending by next April 15.”
