PEARCE VOTES TO PROTECT OUR NATION’S MEN AND WOMEN IN UNIFORM
Washington, DC (July 19, 2012) Congressman Pearce issued the following statement on the House of Representatives’ passage of H.R. 5856, the Department of Defense Appropriations Act for Fiscal Year 2013.
“With the passage of this bill today, the House of Representatives continues its commitment to each and every member of our Armed Forces. Washington must not and cannot cut the funds that go to our men and women who bravely protect our nation overseas and at home. H.R. 5856 provides a 1.7 percent pay increase for our service members, over $35 billion for health and family programs to ensure our heroes and their families receive the greatest care possible, and increases funding for operations and maintenance of our military’s bases and equipment.
“In conjunction with the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), which the House passed back in May, our troops in harm’s way have the full authorization and monetary support to perform their missions and return home safely. My experiences in the Vietnam War remind me constantly how vital it is that Congress protects and provides for our troops with the funding that they need. I have always and will always continue to support our troops. I am pleased that the House voted in a bipartisan fashion today to ensure our military has the funds it needs to operation for the another year.”
Today, the House of Representatives passed H.R. 5856 by a final vote of 326-90. This legislation funds our national security programs, military operations overseas, and the health of U.S. troops for the year to come.
